With thousands of Muay Thai gyms in Thailand, it can be a challenge to pick the right one. I know this because I’ve been going to Thailand to train more times than I can count.

Therefore I’ve gathered the best gyms for you at the most popular destinations. Whether you want to go to tropical destinations in the south, lively Bangkok and large neighboring cities in the center, or among refreshing mountain terrain in the north.

Due to the number of gyms, it’s hard to say which is exactly the best. It also comes down to personal preferences. But the ones I’ve included are all foreigner-friendly and rated the best in their respective area (or among them).

Some advantages of choosing a foreigner-friendly gym:

  • All classes are in English
  • They’re friendly for all levels (whether you’re a beginner or a pro)
  • The majority of students are other foreigners (making it easy to make friends)
  • They’re often located at popular destinations with things to do outside of training
📌 TIP: All of the gyms I've listed have at least two group classes per day (except Sunday). One in the morning, and one in the afternoon. And are offering private sessions as well. With fairly similar prices too overall.
Luckily gloves don’t need passports

Best Muay Thai Gyms in Southern Thailand

This is my favorite part of Thailand. And they have the biggest share of popular tourist destinations for a reason.

If you like a tropical climate, stunning beaches, and island life, southern Thailand is where you should go.

Though if you have enough time I still recommend you to visit the other parts of Thailand too (they’re worth it!).

📌 TIP: I've sorted the gyms in alphabetic order by the city under each area (South, Central, and North Thailand).

1. Koh Phangan: Chinnarach Muay Thai

This gym is located on the popular island of Koh Phangan and has been operating since 2005, making it one of the island longest-running boxing gyms.

Besides their high-quality training, they’re also known for their warm and friendly atmosphere, where everyone feels welcome.

One of the things that make it stand out from the other gyms is that they’re periodically hosting fight nights with local and international fighters.

2. Koh Samui: Superpro Samui (My Favorite) 🏆

This is more than a gym. It has everything you can dream of whether you like Muay Thai, Martial Arts, or Fitness. It’s located on the island of Koh Samui and has been in business since 2006.

Besides their daily Muay Thai classes. You’ll also find BJJ (MMA), CrossFit, and Yoga on their timetable, each with designated coaches.

And after training, you can dive into the swimming pool to cool yourself down. Or try their new ice baths if you dare.

This is also a popular gym for big international fighters. I’ve met several big names here, such as Alistair Overeem himself.

3. Krabi: Honour Muay Thai

You’ll find this gym in the resort town Ao Nang near the popular town Krabi.

The atmosphere at the gym is very homely and welcoming. This is emphasized by a unique living room setup only a few meters from the ring.

And outside training hours you’ll be close to the famous surrounding beaches and beautiful limestone Karsts.

Here you’ll also get to meet coaches with notable wins under their belt. Including against Muay Thai legends such as Buakaw Banchamek and Ramon Dekkers.

4. Phuket: Rattachai Muay Thai

This family-owned gym opened in 2015 and is owned by coach Nai and his wife Nit. It’s located in Phuket, which is the most popular tourist destination in Thailand.

Nai is a 3-time Lumpinee Stadium champion, which is the most prestigious stadium in all of Thailand.

Also, this gym caught some headlines in 2010, when the president of UFC, Dana White, donated $50,000 to cover the family’s daughter Tuptim’s liver transplant. Luckily she recovered and spends a lot of her time at the gym too.

Best Muay Thai Gyms in Central Thailand

Notice that I’ve included Pattaya and Hua Hin despite they’re technically not located in the central region of Thailand.

But according to the map, they’re still located pretty centrally close to Bangkok. So I guess that will do.

5. Bangkok: Elite Fight Club

You’ll find this modern gym in the popular Sukhumvit area in Bangkok, with a unique view overlooking the city.

Besides the Muay Thai classes, you’ll also find MMA, BJJ, Western Boxing, and even Taekwondo on their timetable, each with individual coaches.

And once you’re done with training, you’ll also get access to the nearby swimming pool with your membership.

📌 TIP: If you aren't familiar with Thailand, keep in mind that Bangkok is a big city with a lot of traffic, lower air quality, and can feel hectic at times.

With that said, it's one of my favorite cities. There's a reason it's often the most visited city in the world. Though I prefer smaller cities when training.

6. Hua Hin: King of Muay Thai

This modern gym is located in the popular seaside town of Hua Hin. It was opened in 2017 which also makes it fairly new.

It’s extraordinarily big with a roomy atmosphere. The tall and open structure also gives a good framework for cooling winds and natural light.

And once you’re done with training, you can chill yourself down by jumping in their jacuzzi or grabbing a protein shake, and coffee, among others at their bar.

7. Pattaya: EVO360 Muay Thai

You’ll find this modern gym in the heart of Pattaya. And only a short ride from the city’s famous beach strip.

Unlike the other gyms on this list, EVO360 is an international brand that’s also represented in USA and Dubai.

They have a big emphasis on the principles of tradition, accuracy, determination, and execution. If you’re serious about your training, they also offer performance nutrition programs among other things.

Best Muay Thai Gyms in Northern Thailand

Not it’s time for a different yet popular region among tourists.

Here you get to experience traditional Thai culture, beautiful mountains, forests, and cooler weather between late evening and early morning.

North Thailand is also known for its regional dishes such as Khao soi, which I highly recommend you try if you go here.

And while the prices for training are more or less the same in North Thailand, accommodation is often cheaper.

📌 TIP: Beware of Thailand's Burning Season that takes place in Northern Thailand each year (usually between January to March).

This is when farmers burn vegetation to clear their land for next year's farming. This causes a fair amount of pollution. And to a level that can interfere with your health.

8. Chiang Mai: Dang Muay Thai

This gym has a unique location inside the central Old Town in Chiang Mai. It has previously moved to a new location, making it the biggest in the area.

The gym is named after its owner and head coach, Dang. And all the coaches you’ll meet here are previous Muay Thai champions. With over a century of experience combined.

Besides training, they also arrange occasional meetups for all students to actively create a sense of community.

9. Pai: Charn Chai Muay Thai

You’ll find this gym in the small and charming town of Pai. Which happens to be my favorite place in North Thailand too. A place that’s known for its relaxed vibes and natural beauty.

This gym is a hidden gem. One of the many notable mentions is their head coach, Bee, who previously ranked #1 in the two most prestigious stadiums in Thailand (Lumpinee and Rajadamnern).

But you’ll find more than world-class training here. They’re also known for their welcoming atmosphere and strong community.
